About Medical Microbiology Program
General Information
Medical Microbiology is a branch of science that studies microorganisms associated with humans. Microbes are not only causative agents of diseases; they are also defined as functional organs of the human body due to the mutualistic relationships they form with humans, playing an important role in maintaining human health and enabling a healthy life. Therefore, Microbiology, and especially Medical Microbiology, which has gained importance due to microbes being agents of infectious diseases in humans, has always been an important field and will continue to maintain its significance. In the field of Medical Microbiology, studies focusing on the mechanisms of infectious diseases, particularly at the cellular and molecular levels within the framework of the microbe-human relationship, are gaining importance. The primary reason for the increase in these studies is not only academic curiosity but also their potential to lead to stronger discoveries related to the diagnosis, treatment, and, most importantly, the prevention of these diseases.
The aim of the Medical Microbiology Master's Program is to educate individuals who have completed their undergraduate studies in relevant fields, with an interdisciplinary approach, and equip them with the knowledge and skills to conduct independent research. While doing this, one of our main goals is to encourage a focus on identifying and solving problems, and to contribute to our country by training individuals with strong analytical and synthesis skills. In this master's program, students are expected to gain fundamental knowledge about topics such as microbe-host relationships, the pathogenesis of infectious diseases resulting from these relationships, and the host immune system, which are fundamental subjects of both microbiology and infection biology. Upon graduation, students will also have basic knowledge of how to evaluate clinical samples in "Clinical Microbiology" laboratories, under what conditions, using which examination methods, and how to report the results.
Program Profile
The aim of the Medical Microbiology Master's Program is to train individuals who have completed their undergraduate education in relevant fields with an interdisciplinary approach and to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to conduct independent research. Furthermore, by encouraging a focus on identifying and solving problems, one of our main objectives is to contribute to our country by producing individuals with strong analytical abilities. The program is designed to train researchers who can be effective in various fields and contribute to meeting the needs of both our country and the world. Our graduates can continue their postgraduate education and pursue academic careers in universities or research centers, or they may find job opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, industry, and agriculture, where their expertise is in demand.
Application and Admission Requirements for the Medical Microbiology Master's Program (Thesis)
Applicants who have graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Genetic Engineering, or Biotechnology are eligible to apply. Additionally, graduates from Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry, as well as non-thesis graduates of Microbiology Master's programs from related Institutes, are also eligible to apply. The language of instruction will be Turkish.
Required Documents for Registration in the Program for Turkish Citizens:
a) Application Form
b) Original or Notarized Copy of the Bachelor's Degree Diploma
c) Original or Notarized Copy of the National ID Card
d) Transcript from the Graduating Institution, Original or Notarized Copy
e) Photograph (2 pieces, taken within the last year)
f) Military Status Certificate for Male Applicants
g) Original ALES Exam Result Document (Applicants must have achieved at least 55 points in the quantitative section of the ALES exam or an equivalent score from the GRE, and the document should be within the validity period accepted by YÖK.)
h) The candidates' General Weighted Average (GPA) from their undergraduate degree must be at least 60 out of 100 or at least 2.29 out of 4.00.
i) For undergraduate graduates, the success grade is determined by taking 50% of the ALES score, 25% of the general GPA, and 25% of the science exam (interview).

3. Notarized copy of the identity document
4. Transcript from the graduated institution, original or notarized copy
5. ALES certificate
6. 6 passport-sized photographs
7. Original or notarized copy of the document stating no military obligation (for male candidates)
Note: Candidates who cannot come to the university for Registration can complete their registration process through a power of attorney.
Graduation Requirements and Regulations
According to Article 6 of the YÖK Postgraduate Education and Training Regulation, the program consists of at least 7 courses, including the mandatory courses defined by the program, a seminar course, scientific writing techniques, ethics course, and thesis work, with a total of no less than 21 credits. In order to graduate, students are expected to complete a minimum of 120 ECTS credits, with each academic semester contributing at least 60 ECTS credits.

Our students and graduates can continue their academic careers in universities or research centers, or find job opportunities in sectors such as healthcare and industry where their expertise is in demand. Specifically, Research and Development (R&D) centers, diagnostic laboratories, biotechnology companies, and similar fields offer employment opportunities.

Duration of the Medical Microbiology Master's Program
According to the "Postgraduate Education and Training Regulation" published in the Official Gazette No. 29690 on April 20, 2016:
For a thesis-based master's program, excluding the time spent on scientific preparation, students must complete the coursework in no more than four semesters, regardless of whether they register for each semester, and complete their thesis within a maximum of six semesters.
Scholarship Opportunities
Graduate Student Support Scholarship
The Support Scholarship is awarded to students who have graduated from the university's undergraduate and graduate programs and have completed their final registration.
A 20% support scholarship is provided to undergraduate graduates of our university when they register for postgraduate programs.
